Not been on for a while so firstly, hi everyone! :)

Secondly, I have recently started talking to my father after 10 years of not having any contact, I was 15 when we last talked. He emailed me today asking when my birthday was... is it me over reacting or should he not know when the birth of his daughter was?! Or is it just a case of men being crap with dates?

I'm guilty as well, I don't know my daughters birth date or anybody else's to be honest, just mine!!

lol, I should come on here more often, you lot make me laugh :)

Ok, maybe I'll give him the benefit of the doubt...and set a reminder for him every year!

What are your thoughts on him sending me a photo of my sister he thought was me?
How old were you?

I can't tell my boys apart in their younger days. I guess by what clothes they are wearing.
CAJ1 it would be nice to think that everyone remembered everybody else's birthday but they don't I'm afraid. There are two ways of looking at this situation ~ you can take it as an insult and hold it against him or you can think 'well at least he cares enough to ask'. The choice is yours hun.

Incidentally my (estranged) father can't even spell my name which is only 5 letters long so hey ho it could be worse =)

When I was 15, my sister was 9. We don't look very similar either, the photo was of her at 13 and my boyfriend was able to tell instantly that it wasn't me.
I think your dad is making an effort and he's going to make a hell of a lot of mistakes in doing so. My dad wasn't part of my life for a few years (quite a while ago) and it was difficult enough for him to get back on track for a few years, I can't imagine how hard it would be for a ten year lapse. I would try and focus on the positives more than the negatives adn pick your battles. I would class a question about your birthday and a mistake in photos as a battle worth having but obviously that is subjective.

However, if you dwell too much on the negative, then you can never move forwards with the positive stuff. He's making an effort, he's going to cock up, make a fuss when he cocks up something worth making a fuss about. Good luck.
To be honest, it's always been the women in our family that have had to remember birthdays etc. My son still isn't sure about the date of mine and asks me every year. Mr LL is not given a chance to forget! Neither of them ever think about anybody else's birthday although I should think my son might just know roughly when his partner's birthday is. I wouldn't be at all upset at a fella not remembering my birthday - I take it as normal.

Sorry, that should say 'WOULDN'T class'....
The kids in the family regularly thank me for bithday presents I can't remember buying it's a good job the boss never forgets any aniversary or birthday . Give your dad a bit of leeway CAJ1, at least he's trying many kids have fathers who don't make any effort at all

Thanks for the comments and advice everyone, its much appreciated :) x
Wife's birthday - 30th of January.
Previous girlfriend's birthday (25 years ago) - 28th January.

I STILL struggle every year to remember whether to wish the wife happy birthday on the 28th or the 30th.
