I noticed at the entrance to Asda there is a machine that counts and changes you loose change. People were queueing to use the machine. Some had carrier bags full. My question is 1 Do you get charged for using the machine, and 2 does it give you real money ie notes back or vouchers to use in Asda.

it takes a percentage and gives you the rest as a voucher. i think you also have the option to donate to charity
You can either get the full amount in vouchers to spend in ASDA or you get charged a commission to take it in cash. I personally get a few bags from the bank and let the kids count it. They enjoy it.
Coinstar is the company and they charge roughly 9%.

Thankyou all for your answers. Squarebear I went to your triviasquares site through the link on the Grubs Up thread. Had a fun half hour.
Glad you liked it.
I've just been and had a look squarebear....could be addictive. Nice site though
It's a good deal for the owning company - and for the supermarket.

i have a jar in which i collect 50p and £2 coins, when it's full, I just get bags from the bank, bag it up, and pay it in. there is no way I'm going to pay anyone 9% to count my money for me!
I save up my coins and then feed them into the scan-your-own tills in Tesco. People glare and mutter - but it is nice to get rid of all the coins and it feels like you get your shopping free or cheaper.
I bag all my coppers up, and when ive about a tenners worth, I take 'em into work and shove em in a till ;-)
i save all my coppers and 5p pieces in an ornamental chinese vase and then at xmas i transfer it all into sweet jars and then take them to asda to pour them in the machine..i had £667.00 last xmas eve...mrs m says i should buy some fingerless gloves...lol
Sioke you must have a load of loose change to get that amount lol
