no baiting no arguments wanted! Just genuinely interested in what your thoughts are on drawing muhammed.

Someone else (who is muslin) has said that it is not forbidden to draw him?

can you let me know your views and if there is a general consensus on what the rules are

thank you

Tweaker, apology accepted. Thank you. I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

I agree with you in one respect – the imprisonment of a person because of their belief(s) is obscene. If some believes that the Holocaust didn't happen, then that's their choice. I don't agree with such people, but I don't think they should go to prison for being a misinformed, deluded idiot.

Interesting that you state, “... If I deny holocaust or even if I do not agree with the scale of it then I can be arrested in few countries. So what happened to my freedom of speech?”.

I find that really interesting because Islam has a deserved reputation throughout the world for apparently wanting to suppress free speech. In many Islamic countries you do not have the democratic right to protest and you certainly don't have free speech.

You also stated earlier, “... as I believe freedom of speech should not be used as freedom to insult”.

Keyplus, just so you understand – free speech means:

The right to openly criticise another person's actions without fear of retribution;
The right to openly criticise another person's beliefs without fear of retribution;
The right to say what you think – no matter how ludicrous, without fear of retribution.
Continued...

Where your particular logic comes unstuck is in your application of the word 'criticise'. Because you have been brought up in the Islamic culture and religion, you think that the word 'criticism' when applied to Islam, is synonymous with the word 'insult'.

You think this because the Islamic religion teaches that any criticism of the Islamic faith is an attack on Islam. People such as yourself (ie, Pro-Islamic, Pro-Christian, etc.) love to play the 'free-speech' card because you only play it when you want to say something horrible about some other religious or racial group. Needless to say, when it comes to someone having a go at you or your religion then suddenly free speech is a bad thing and you claim that free speech shouldn't be used to 'insult'.

The obvious duality is pathetic.
"Ankou, you pick on people here continually, and I detest bullies, so if you can't take it, don't give it."

noami dear, i think you should practice whjat you so often preach.

birdie, a very fine post. but i think we all agree that islamic practce is at best hypocritical and at worst abhorrently violent and evil.

Keyplus, I couldn't read your post again last night because you spoke of beheading people as though such a thing is quite acceptable - and I found that absolutely sickening. It isn't acceptable. It's nothing less than barbaric. As for freedom of speech, I still want to know why you feel Islam has the right to dictate to citizens of countries where its laws don't apply.

Ankou, the moral is if you don't start it you will not be challenged. Finally you've posted something relevant to the debate, so hopefully the message has sunk in and you've now decided to play nicely. Enough now. Let's get on with the discussion.

Noth, and you're improving on it all the time. A veritable masterpiece! :o)

oh Noth i know I shouldn't laugh but that is Briliiant!
Shermi, why shouldn't you laugh if you find it funny? That's the whole point of this freedom of speech debate. I found it funny, so I laughed - as I have every right to do.

I know Naomi but I don't want to purposefully offend people! but they have to realise the reason its taboo is the reason its funny!
Shermi, I know you don't, but it's time we started saying 'no'. If these people want to revere their prophet or their God, no one is stopping them, but by the same token, they have no right to expect us to respect their beliefs to the extent that it undermines our own freedoms.
leaving everything above on one side. But I agree with naomi's last post. You should do what you want to do and let them do what they want to do. Keep watching.
But I must say one more thing. Western people call themselves very well informed. But when it come to the life of Muhammad (pbuh) their tiny brains are still stuck with fictional character created by the crusaders known as Mohmet.
Keyplus, //Keep watching.// What are you talking about?
Nothing much has changed since then, Although few do not call themselves Christians.........................for a change.

So what does 'Keep watching' mean?
