When I was the one being paid more it was due to differing contracts - I had been there a long time and the newer people had different contracts. It is totally unfair though. Union may be the way to go if you have one.

Not as yet jno,but knowing how this works we have to be acceptable that they were old contracts that they have honoured.
Thats exactly the problem. You can't remove someones pay because thats what has been agreed and any company who can get away with paying less for newer staff will - nightmare but a regular thing.
but all our role completley changed shouldnt we all get paid the same?

this is exactly what happened to the Leeds binmen strike which lasted for 10 weeks!!!

I thought unite were the major union, and unison were to merge with unite,is that still to happen?
I agree it should be equal but thats what happens now. These 'fixed term contracts' and so on are a minefield. Nothing is equal any more and they expect you to still respect your colleagues and get on, not an easy task when you know they are getting paid more than you to do the exact same role!

Good point whitebear we were restructed, and we are doing the work of bettered paid workers!
greenfly, we dont get on. theres a few newbies doesnt like him either. hes so full on, and talks down on us...just cos hes alot older than us ..... i mean who does he think he is?
You have lost me whitebear - who doesn't get on?
Question Author
How did you cope money wise china
me and him (him whose getting paid more) dont really get on
Oh the analyst - long day... Well some people are just like that - they believe they are superior, just ignore him. I have worked with many a person like that.
I live within my means. Which is not uncomfortable for me but would be for others, it's subjective... Plus I don't give a hoot who earns what as long as I earn enough to keep me happy. I can't be bothered with the 'it's not fair' nonsense... make a stand, change jobs or shut up and get on with it, I've been on all sides and frankly it all comes down to choice. You may not like the options but they're still options and thems the breaks.
china, i would change jobs if i could find another job, been looking since Jan this year
lmao - I am currently still unemployed since being made redundant last year - there is a medical condition thrown in also but I must admit right now, I would accept a job and put up with it whether I was being paid less than someone or not. Sometimes you can't be too picky. But if it does bother you that much (like me when I left) then you really only have one option.
greedyfly, im counting on tonights thunderball draw! lol doubt i win. :P
Don't all - would be very nice. I keep my fingers crossed for you. I am counting on my interview this week coming up trumps and me actually getting a job! Good luck to us both =)
thanks and good luck to u greedyfly xxx
I recently made a stand about some things I was very unhappy about at work.

It has been a long and difficult few months as I walked out.

I should have left a long time ago (China, I finally saw sense!), leaving the way I did wasn't ideal and it's been hard financially and I have no-one but myself to support me but the main thing for me, especially my health and sanity, was leaving and I've now got myself a new job, start next week and can't wait.

A fresh start for me :)

Ps China, check I sent you a message on FB but not sure if you got it.
