I've heard that cheap accomadation in Amsterdam is notoriously bad. Can anyone recommend a nice, affordable hotel in the city?

What I did to combat this was stay in Harlan, a town nearby (where nights are more peaceful and hotels are more affordable) and drove into Amsterdam for the days.

I stayed on a river boat I found on the internet, it was brill, clean and cheap, and I would use them again.

I have been to Amsterdam twice, and both times stayed at the Hotel Vijaya. It is in the heart of the Red Light district, but there was not a problem with trouble or anything. Best described as cheap and cheerful! You can get details on Google
