My best mate has recently come into a bit of coin (inheritance) and has booked a small cruise for us both, stopping in Amsterdam and Antwerp.
Can anyone recommend places to visit in these places (apart from the red light district...)?
(Antwerp is pretty much mapped out, more Amsterdam that we would be interested in, thanks)

Which cruise line is it, Nails?
Amsterdam's walkable, but there are trams if you get tired.

Not sure Tills. Got the paper work somewhere when I can dig it out. The ship is called the Columbus. Its had some negative reviews on Trip advisor but have seen some you tube vids of the ship and cant see what people are complaining about. It aint 5 star but never claimed to be anyway. Just somewhere to sleep to me while crossing the sea.

Once booked an hotel in London for the week and after found awful revues of it. Thought we may have dropped a b ollock but turned out more than satisfactory for the duration.
I's a great city to walk round whilst stopping for coffee at the cafes. I rather think that the head cafes have stopped selling to tourists...certainly they were talking of doing that. If you are interested there is the Van Gogh museum. The shops are worth pottering round and a beer beside the canals is relaxing, There ae several markets as well. I have never seen inside Ann Franks house because I like to leave something to go back for! Some lovely restaurants ..particularly the far eastern ones. Take your time, see it in a relaxed way becaue you can always go back..Enjoy..it is lovely
Nails, don’t get your finger stuck in any Dykes.

Try my best Dave, believe me!!
Nailit, A pretty city and so much to see. Others have said quite a lot so I'll say something else. Although I don’t know if it will interest your friend, the synagogue might be of interest to you, as might the holocaust museum – nowhere near rivalling Yad Vashem of course, or several others, but if you're not too limited for time well worth a visit. And then there are the streets where you can find brass plaques along the banks of the canals inscribed with the names of Dutch Jews who, in the 1940s, lived in the houses there before falling victim to the Nazis.

Rembrandtplein – Rembrandt Square - so lively with all its bars and restaurants surrounding a central fabulous work of art replicating Rembrandt’s ‘The Night Watch’.

And despite your dismissal, you have to see the Red Light District - you really do - just a little wander. Everyone does. It’s all part of Amsterdam. Enjoy!! :o)

PS. The Amsterdamers .... (is that one 'm' or two? Never mind) ....do a mean apple strudel. ;o)

Not dismissed it in the least....that's the main attraction!
A little wander round at night. Purely for the architecture of course :-)

Although, if I may have a spare few Euros at hand....?
Haha! Sorry, but you did say "apart from the red light district..."

I thought you'd gone all pious on us. ;o)
