Being inside is punishment in itself. They are not in their to get further punishment. That 'punishment' for some is better than the outside world. Sad fact.
Thetruthhurts and I keep posting very similar threads!! Pure coincidence, we are not in cahoots!!
If we went back to the dark ages of prison, maybe there wouldn't be as much crime on the streets today.
Smurf, the loss of freedom is their punishment. The idea of prison is to rehabilitate them and make them ready, on release, to go straight. Now obviously this doesn't quite work, but that's the aim. The act of imprisonment is the punishment, their loss of freedom. And lets face it, even if they did get five star treatment lol, would you rather that than your freedom?
lol lofty did it again

Actually me and LoftyLottie were banged up in a peter together for a 2 stretch on the moor.
wyzard66, Yes, an excellent read and a shocking one too,
There is no more crime today than there ever was. We just hear more about it with extensive media coverage. I seriously don't think that if prisons went back to what they were like a century ago that it would make any difference whatsoever.

Thetruthhurts - Did you have to let everybody know that!! Actually, I recently visited the prison museum on Dartmoor. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Wyzard, I would agree.

There but for the grace of God and all that. We none of us know what life is going to deal us or our families.
Of course i feel sorry for mentally ill people, a lot of people in prison shouldn't be there in the first place and don't seem to get the right treatment. However I think that a lot of people in prison are there because of their own foolishness - they take too many drugs and get in trouble, and the taxpayer gets the bill. I can't feel sorry for people who take drugs and break into people's homes, killing old people and brutalising children. Maybe if you were a victim you would feel the same.
Nobody here is condoning or feeling sorry for people who commit awful crimes, smurfchops. But there is a bigger picture. If I was a victim of crime one side of me would want vengeance, and that is just natural, but we can't live our lives like that - we are supposedly civilised. If a criminal has been convicted and sent to prison then that is punishment. We should not bring ourselves down to their level. Besides, how do you know that none of us have been victims of crime?

What do you suggest we do to stop having to pay for the upkeep of prisons and prisoners - through them in a dungeon, lock them up, and dont feed them? That would save a lot of money.
My brother was in prison.. he had in his cell a tv, freeview box, stereo and a playstation 2! oh, and he had a mobile phone!
