No answers in politics so maybe some of you know-

What happens to the MPs who were ousted, do they have their previous jobs to go back to or businesses to run, also the staff of their constituency office, do they lose their jobs?

dunno, but the jaqui moment was sweet, very sweet ! x
some will have jobs to return to, some won't. High-flyers may be offered City directorships by their chums. Constituency offices may well continue to exist, though, so staff won't necessarily be sacked.

Yes it was and for my local MP too!
I agree stonekicker, looked like she was thinking "oh no back to the kitchen sink again! While he sits there watching his porno movies".
Perhaps the Transylvanian will take Lembit Opik back...
As a rule the staff of the constituency office will not lose their jobs as they are funded by the party nationally.
our local MP was voted back in, he's labout thank the lord, anyway, it's not all bad, the BNP took a kickin
gran - she looked like she had swallowed a wasp! moments like that are great and its worth staying up the whole night just to see them x
Shades of Portillo (1997). Whilst I have my own political opinions and am happy to see members of opposing parties lose their seats, nevertheless this is a public humiliation for the loser and I therefore have sympathy with their position. Most people, when they lose their jobs, do so in the privacy of the manager's office. The public gloating at the demise of a sitting MP is more than redolent of the tricoteuses who surrounded the guillotine.
did they sit behind the knitters?
If you look up the word 'tricoteuse' you will find it means 'knitter'.
They probably go on the dole and then moan because the money they get is only small and so go on and sell The Big Issue.
They get used as moving targets on firing ranges......I wish
They go back to clear out their moats and give the duck houses a bit of a Spring clean.
The truth is some will go onto retire, some will go onto the after dinner speakers circuit, some will go into consultancy posititions, some will go and get cozy with rent boys, but most will return to the real world and be absolutely shocked how reviled they are!!
They get a substantial payment - how about this for featherbedding....

You're probably right bobj on all counts and thanks to all for the previous answers. I only asked 'cos my MP lost after about 9 years in the seat, wondered what he was going to do now.
That was a tricky question dot.

We'd never heard of our MP until a couple of weeks ago and he got in.
