For a long time now (years and years) I have been sleeping badly. I don't drink caffeine at night, I relax, dont watch TV in bedroom - in fact all the things they say to do before trying to go to sleep. I usually get off to sleep within 20 minutes, and I do dream a lot, but almost every two hours exactly to the second I am wide awake. I tend to 'go off' again quite easily, but this happens all the time, every two hours, every night. I go to bed around 11.15pm and get up around 8 am. but I am always tired in the morning. I do have Temazapam from the doctor but I don't like to use them that often, I usually have one after a particularly bad night, when i can't get off to sleep again. I have no worries, nothing to keep me awake, the room is dark and quiet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried staying up all night? jut for one night, next day will be a bit tough but maybe you'll be so tired when you go to bed the next night you might sleep all night through. Try going to bed a bit earlier and don;t eat after 7.30!
Have a look at this - it is also in Libraries: http://www.amazon.co....-Doesnt/dp/184119672X

Thanks Androcles, I dont mind trying the book but I've tried everything I can think of, the Daily Mail often publishes articles about bad sleepers, and i have followed it to the letter. Cody I haven't stayed up all night, but have been to bed at 2.30 am and still woken up at 4.30 am ! If I stayed up all night think of all the ironing I could get done !
smurfchops, you have my entire and total sympathy. i too have suffered from sleeplessness for years and years and have got to the point now that i refuse to worry about it any more. i can count on the fingers of one...finger....the solid and good nights sleep i've had in the past 10 years (and that was the day after a rather long operation and i was full of morphine).
i have now accepted that that's the way it is for me, nothing i can do about it. i gave up caffeine completely about 15 years ago, and just like you, i do all the things recommended for a good nights sleep. nothing works. i too have some sleeping pills, which i take one of about every 3 months or so. i wish i had a switch in my brain so i could just flick it at bedtime and fall into a lovely, deep sleep for maybe 6 hours.
i have no idea what the answer is...........................but if you find it could you let me know?
Smurf i take from Holland and Barrett Peaceful Night herbal pills they are very good give them a try. xx
Do you do exercise regualary for at least 40 minutes a day three/four times a week, e.g Jogging/running/walking? if not then give it a try, it sorted my insomnia out!!
Don't have anything electric in the bedroom or if you have unplug them. If your alarm clock is electric change it for a battery-operated one. This usually helps.

Thanks for all your help everyone, i am glad I am not the only person with this. I have read about people with insomnia, or who wake up around 3 am and can't get back to sleep, but not waking every two hours. I will go to H&B and get some Peaceful Night,Kev, I must admit I don't walk enough, maybe I should exercise more ... and I will try unplugging everything and see if that helps. However even on holiday, with no electrical items plugged in (i.e. clock, radio, electric blanket ..) I still sleep badly. Ethandron - If I find a cure I will let you know !
