can anyone name a nice boiling potato? as kids we never had mash at home (probably because we hated the horrible school mash) but mum used to cook nice whole pieces of white potato, but I don't seem able to find any that will give that result, they all seem to break up before they are cooked in the middle and have to be mashed anyway, I have tried reds and whites with the same result, I am now for the second time in my life getting bored with mash, help.

Hi Cecil, this is being answered on your original post http://www.theanswerb...k/Question879204.html
Sounds to me like you are boiling the potatoes for too long a period.
I find 'Roosters' are the best. Try steaming them instead of boiling.
try simmering rather than actually boiling, and reduce the cooking time
Rooster Bartletts are the best - creamy texture
As ummm said roosters are a great all round spud,if you can get cara potatoes fantastic for baking, another is maris piper which is great for mashing and roasting,or a king edward the next best
Peter, that's a nice name for a potato
