It isn't set in a specific year.

The author of the original books (Flora Thompson) was born in 1876, and they are a fictionalised autobiography of her childhood and early adulthood.

The series is adapted from the books, not always that faithfully. The character Laura is Flora - if you can work out how old she is you might be able to tell, at least notionally.

I just heard that in last years series they had a clock built in Candleford, At the very top the year inscribed was 1895.
The books are set round about the 1880's however in the programme you see Robert Timmins put 1895 on the new clock .But have a look at Wiki and scroll down to anachronisms.

In the books, Candleford (actually Buckingham) is a day's walk away from Lark Rise (Juniper Hill), whereas in the series they seem to take no more that half an hour or so to walk it! Dorcas Lane was a rather stout lady in her mid 50's when Laura went to work for her. Mrs Arless is referred to in the first book, but never again. Laura said her father became a very embittered man in his old age and did not really get on with him. She married her husband when she moved to a post office in Brighton, and ended her life in Brixham, Devon.
It is wonderful isn't it - one of the best things on tv at the moment - I love minnie
Minnie isn't in the books, only the elderly servant who was played by Liz Smith in the first series! I do like the Minnie character though, the actress playing her has the face of that time!

It is because of its very nature of innocence, something we lost a long time ago, that gives it it's attraction. I love the whole aspect of having a caring community who go out of their way to look after one another, wish humanity was that kind.

The maid servant who is Minnie, a fine actress indeed had a role in "Lost in Austen" another period drama.
I love it, part of it is filmed near me and I spend most of the time spotting places I know.

Where is Larkrise filmed horselady?
Part of it is fllmed in Wiltshire, in and around a viilage called Neston, where they have built the film set of little houses that the Larkrise people live in. There is a mansion called Neston Park and they use the grounds of that. Just along the road is Hatts Farm and they use the corn fields and some shots of the farmhouse. Never seen any of the cast around the village, but the film crew use the pub!

Must be great living in such a beautiful part of the country horselady.
