Is there a way that I can copy a DVD that I have legally bought that has inbuilt protection ( to take on holiday for instance) so that I can leave the master DVD at home ?.

Use DVD Fab HD Decrypter to strip the DVD of it's copy protection first, then use DVD Shrink to compress it to fit a blank DVD and finally burn it to disc using Nero or something similar.

A trial version of DVD Fab HD Decrypter is available here:

DVD Shrink is free software ( be careful, as some sites will try to get you to pay for it).

It may take a few hours to complete all this steps depending on how powerful your PC or laptop is.
