Has anybody used this - specifically on a pda.

 

Also, I notice that on Ebay there seems to be lots of 'cheap' versions - I asusume that these are dodgy - has anyone tried any of these?

Yes. I have used TT5 - its great. I have also seen the eBay versions. They look like they work fine - my mate bought one and it was a DVD that turned up in the post. He had to copy everything off the DVD onto an SD card. When he plugged this into the PDA, TomTom5 installed and it worked great!!

There did seem to be a bug when the PDA was turned off and back on though - the voice stopped working. He had to exit the TT5 application and then restart it. Worth a go? Probably. Dodgy though, so best not!
