In old Norse, the name was Mon or Maon and in Latin it - as well as Anglesey off the Welsh coast - was called Mona. Local people, I believe, refer to their home as 'Ellan Vannin' or 'Ellan Mannin'. In Welsh Anglesey is Ynys Mon, Ynys being the Welsh word for island.
