IMO printers are the new toasters, it's cheaper to buy a new one than replace the ink cartridges, it is increasingly annoying that the new printers supply (again IMO) low capacity cartridges and they run out very quickly, then you either spend £50 on a new set or £35 on a new printer.
I have an Epson D78 inkjet, I reckon the photo quality on A4 prints to be good – the best thing about the printer is that you can buy compatible high capacity cartridges, at around £1 each (including P&P).

I don’t think Epson make the D78 anymore – but if you check out ebay, someone is selling brand new boxed units for £25 + £10 P&P. Also check out cartridges available from ebay vendors (double capacity). Note that the printers are not supplied with a USB cable.
whatever you do, don't buy one of the Kodak ones as I've had nothing but bother with mine & when say the colour cartridge runs out, it won't allow you to print in black only & just comes up with a message saying to replace cartridge. Also the cartridges don't last very long at all so all this hype about the cartridges being cheaper is rubbish. I had an Epson years ago & will replace the Kodak with another Epson in due course
