If you're having a limb amputated, are you allowed to keep it? Because I would have thought that it's legally your property?

this time last year i had my gallbladder removed and i was told i couldnt have my gallstones because they would be a health risk and must be disposed of correctly, so i would have thought a limb would be the same.
You aren't even allowed to keep your teeth these days when they are pulled out
