Richard Whiteley  died just days after undergoing heart surgery.

He fell ill with pneumonia last month, but had been said to be recovering slowly.

Pneumonia eh? A nine letter word. It's what he would've wanted...

Seriously though, It looks like a classical case of invasive pneumococcal disease, that has started as pneumonia and then spread to his heart. I believe that he was diabetic, which would have put him into one of the "at risk" categories for IPD
