Man trouble?

ABers i need your advice!

Five years ago I had a male fiend who i really fancied. Unfortuntaely, I ws not single at the time but we were both aware that there was something between us and so were others in our social circle.
My firend eventually met another girl (we parted as friends for one reason or another) and got together with her and not long after they had a baby.

Last year i split up with the person I was with and 17 weeks ago my friend split up with his girlfriend. (I hope im not making this to confusing!)

He's currently going through a nasty lawsuit to get access to his child which should be finished soon.

Two weeks ago my friend and I met up for the first time in years after a long discussion via text where we both confessed out feelings for each other.
When we went out he told me that he didnt want to rush anything because he wanted to get it right this time and that he wanted us to get to know each other as friends again so that we can build it into something more. He said he disnt want to be disrespectful to me and had even consulted his mother!

I said perhaps it was better to just be friends and if we are bothe single in a few months time then who knows? he didnt like this idea, but i said i didnt want to be a rebound relationship.

We've still been in contact since. Chats on the phone, text messages with kisses on the end etc etc

We were due to go out this week but he was unable to make it so im seeing him next week.

My question is really what would you do in this situation? I have loved him for years but i dont want to be made a fool of. He's quite a genuine person but i dont want him to think he can have his cake and eat it whilst keeping me on the sidelines? am i expecting too much?

Any advice would be so much appreciated.

Go for it.....nobody can predict the outcome.
If you've really felt that way for years why put it off now that you are both free to be together? I think it's good he wants to take it slow - see if it's really what you think it is.

As Sqad says no-one knows what could happen, if you don't go for it because your worying about that you could miss out on something that is really good.

you've nothing to lose, give it a go!
go with the flow
Go for it sam, life's too short.

Thank you for your replies! Very helpful.

I really want to give it a go and apparently some of the best relationships can happen if your friends first. But seeing each other once every week or so is just so slow.....frustrating!

I'm just panicing about being used..regardless of how well i know him/used to know him, its diferent when your in a relationship the dynamics change.
