Other Bu66ers Effort
Used to be the award to people of company director status and upward. Below that, for plebs, it would be the BEM (British Empire Medal), awarded if you'd been the sole postmistress in some tiny village community for 137 years or suchlike. The BEM was done away with on the grounds that 'Empire' was non-PC, (and probably because of refusal by would-be recipients, who felt it fixed them firmly among the lower classes).
There are different classes of the Order

In decending order

Knight Grand Cross (GBE) or Dame Grand Cross (GBE)
Knight Commander (KBE) or Dame Commander (DBE)
Commander (CBE)
Officer (OBE)
Member (MBE)
CMG: call me God
KCMG: kindly call me God
GCMG: God calls me God
whichever, whatever, I know two people who have received them, one of each - and they've turned into real barstewards!!! If you get offered one - refuse and keep your friends.
