barley straw in pond

does the barley straw have to have been dried out for it to work to rid a pond of blanket weed?

I don't know the answer but barley strae doesn't kill blanket weed....it only controls green water.

Try cloverleaf blanket answer....a bit pricey but it's the best stuff i've ever used.
Yes it should be dry before it goes in the water - just put it in a net bag of some sort. It keeps the water clear - but does not clear blanket weed.
The only way is to lift it out and put it on the compost heap where it will do a bit of good.

An idea I use is to get a long plastic tube / stick. At one end, put about four screws in half way an inch apart at different levels up the pole / stick.( not in a line but around the pole) Place this in the pond along the side and turn the pole which in turn rotates the screws which catch the blanket weed. Because the weed is all joined, it accumulates on the pole. Remove the pole and cut off the weed exposing the screws again for more weed removal.
