if you make a purchase with your credit card and the money doesn't leave your account, how long after the purchase legally do the company have to take out the money before it's too late?

Is this a situation where you have bought something on your and after some time the item still hasn't appeared on your statement?
I'm not aware of any limit. There is an agreement to pay. You could ask your credit card company to confirm this.
If it's worrying you why don't you ring the seller up and remind them that they haven't taken the money.

it was a hotel that i was booked in for a week and checked out after two days but they charged me for four as a penalty, i was never even asked could they accomadate me in any other way. 5 star more like 2 star self catering!!!!! so i won't be ringing to remind them as i had to pay another hotel for the remaning five nights of my holiday which all in all cost me a bomb.
Ah, so are you asking whether the company is supposed to allow you a 'cooling off' period before they take the money from your card?
I think the answer is no- you made a contract to pay them for 7 days' accommodation, and they reduced this charge to 4 days as a goodwill gesture.
But there's no harm in writing and asking for some more money back, or you could ask your credit card company to pursue it for you- but I think they are likely to say 'No'.

Yes, that's why I gave an answer. (By the way, did you ask a straight question in the first place?) .
What would you consider to be a straight answer?
You aren't having much luck with your purchases recently are you?
