My vacuum cleaner has just 'died' and have to get a new one, can anyone suggest a good one going by personal experience, its a minefield out there, thanks.

Miele wins the Which report. We got one and I'd never go for another brand again. It was only �100 too. The suction is variable so I'm not sure why someone claims it's too strong for laminate- just turn the dial!
I remember reading that Henry is very good for builders/decorators who need to suck up heavy duty stuff but not so good for general housework.
