Can anyone recommend a really good vacuum cleaner. I have 2 cats and plain carpets(I KNOW!!!). My Dyson has just died and in the past I have also had Sebo, but what do you think is the best and most reliable make?

We have two dogs in the house and we use Morphy Richards Pet Cyclone. It is really good on hairy carpets and also furniture.
dyson every time for me, especially for pet hair.
no i had a dyson but have a miele now best vac ever ...140 from argos worth every penny
I've got the same as fadeout73, it's great for getting up cat hair.
Mile is the best. You can control suction strength, it's quiet and it works very well, even sucking up dirt close to skirting boards.
agree with Velvetee... Miele is the best

I can't offer advice on which will perform best, but as an ex appliance engineer all I'll add to this thread is it was very very rare that I ever had to repair anything made by Miele.

Well we know don't we Joe-king?
Best EVER I have used is the German made SEBO - absolutely fantastic - especialy going from carpets to wooden floors - very easy to use. I have had 3 miele vacuum cleaners prior to buying the SEBO upon recommendation. Thought Miele were good, and did not have too many problems with them But the SEBO is better !! Much better for ALL pet hairs than the Miele I found. Cost slightly more to buy - but it is now the only make I will ever have.
My friend has only had this make for 35 years - no problems re the odd repair caused by the dog chewing it ! Online sales and service was second to none !!!!
Have heard more than a few complaints about Dyson. The choice is yours. But I know this is a make I will never change from.
Hope this is of help.

Thanks for all your suggestions. My son came round at the weekend, took my dyson apart and fixed it so I won't need to buy a new one yet but when I do I will remember all the makes you have recommended.
