Can anyone describe what 'Cantonese style' is, as opposed to general chinese cooking? A friend of mine says her local chinese take-away said Cantonese style simply meant your 'meal' and rice being in seperate containers, and not on top of each other in one. I know this can't be right, as a. my take-away serves all meals seperate, and has additional Cantonese style ones, b. I'm sure they don't use our style of containers, and c. don't be daft!... Anyway, any description of what Cantonese style cooking is?

Cantonese style in cooking means is from a particular part of china. China is split into parts, province e.g. canton, pekin...etc. Often depend on the ingredient they have in that area. Like different parts of england they have their own specialities and their own recipe.

As an aside on a visit to China a non-Cantonese informed me that people from other parts of China tend to look down on Cantonese cuisine. Apparently the in joke is that Cantonese people will eat anything with legs that is not a table or chair.

Stress this was their joke and not my opinion.

the cantonese food you buy at takeaway is westernised ..if you go to a decent cantonese restaurant in one of the chinese quarters the food is a lot better and fresher than some of the greasy meals they serve at takeaways..and it looks different also..
