Actually this reminded me of a cycling holiday in Holland. We had maps, but there were also green arrows strategically placed along the route.

Trouble was, two parts of the route crossed, and we ended up going ten miles the wrong way cos we followed the wrong arrows. We weren't the only ones - organisers took a bit of stick for kocking it up.
