My son asked me what was the largest flying insect!! It has been bugging me ever since (excuse the pun!) - does anyone know? Thanks!

The Hercules moth must come close.
Just noticed you said what WAS.....

The Monyi dragonfly was probably the largest ever flying insect, spanning its wings an amazing 75cm. and weighing up to one pound. This fellow was around in the earlier stages of the dinosaur era so no need to get your mozzie net out.
In the UK, I think dragonflies are the largest of all flying insects.
