my partner will of been separated from his wife 5 years in August. There are no children or property involved. At the begining of Feb this year my partner received a solicitors letter from his wife stating that she now wishes to regularise the separation and commence divorce proceedings in a constructive and non-confrontational way of agreement, and has advised the solicitor to reassure him that she will not be asking for any financial provision or financial contributution from him. At the solicitors request my partner the solicitor and agreed to divorce on the grounds that they have been separated for a period of at least two years. The solicitor then said he would receive the relevant paperwork in the post. As of today he has still not heard anything or received any documents. If his wife had changed her mind (which he is convinced she has, as he was shocked that she wanted an amicable divorce) would the solicitor not have to advise him that this was the case. He feels a bit wary of phoning the solicitor. Many thanks for any advice.

your partner can request all the papers from the local court that deals with divorce cases, and they can go through the process without the costly solicitor.

as they've been separated for 5 years he can go ahead with the divorce without her consent.
I will suggest that you still insist to have a financial order of some sort or else she could come back one day
