My aunt cooked a meal and kindly sent me a portion (which I didn't really want) in an airtight container. When next I saw her she asked, "What did you think about my biryani?" "I was horrible," I replied. "And I nearly broke a tooth on that meat!" She wasn't impressed and muttered something about never speaking to me again (if only I had extracted a promise). ;-) Have you ever answered someone's question with brutal honesty, and immediately regretted it?

why ask if you can't take a honest reply?

That's just it, Stompe..........why do people ask a question if they are not prepared to hear the answer?

If I hadn't told it like it is, she might have cooked me another one next week, and that doesn't bare thinking about !!
Hi 5 NoM x

Hi 5 coming your way, Stompe ! I was more than a little amused to hear of your being compared to another user, btw. Not me, I hasten to add. Being compared to me was utterly hilarious. !!!
A good mix of honesty tact and diplomacy, even the "little white lie" is often required. How to get this mix in the right proportions for the occasion is one of those life skills that you hopefully acquire with time.

That's a very good answer Jason ! Tact and diplomacy are usually things I reserve for other people. However, my aunt is hilarious when she goes off on one.........
Im flattered that other people think Im stompe, however i feel sorry for stompe.NoM i woul'nt be able to say that it was horrid,i'd have to say ohhhhh it was lovely.

But what if, by endorsing something that was verging on the inedible, you inadvertantly subject yourself to the same fate week in, week out? lol
well NOM,if she's going to bring it every week, yeah just say no thank you,but the dog loved it
maybe she wanted some acknowledgement of her kindness rather than a critique of the meal itself?
Question Author
Well, as the inadvertant beneficiary of her culinary prowess, perhaps I could have shown a bit more gratitude, on reflection. However, my aunt is not the sort of person who does something for nothing. Perhaps she heard that I was cooking fillet steaks the next evening and was hoping I would reciprocate.
