I have been informed that my ex (kids Dad) has been arrested for fraud. The info I have and from what I knew previously I believe he owes the Inland Revenue app 300,000. He was deducting Tax and NI and not paying it over.

There is a possibility that he also owes VAT.

Also he hasn't done his tax returns since 1999 I believe is being fined on a daily basis....

My question....what is likely to happen to him? and will they go through his bank/credit card accounts? I'm asking that because they will show lot's of holidays and lot's of designer clothes....!!!

For the personal income side, a requirement to repay all the lost tax plus interest, plus a tax penalty of up to 100% of the sum above.
They are interested in his business income and personal income - not where the money was spent - unless he has been claiming business expenses for things that are not business expenses - for example, holidays and designer clothes.
Is this him?

Sorry to contradict BM but if it is possible to claim his assets, they will - for example, house, cars, to try and recoup the monies

No that's not him Ethel....

He had his own business which employed app 50 people. That business went bust a couple of years ago. That also being the 3rd business this has happened to.

As far as I know he was arrested at his present job as someone grassed on him.

I don't think he has any way of repaying the debt.

The Inland Rev have been looking for him for a long time. They turned up at my house about 4 years ago even though he had never lived there. The also turned up at another girlfriends house after they split up and which he had never lived at.

I asked about the bank statements as he was using money he should be paying to the Inland Rev to help fund his life style.
So he did that with three businesses? Stole his employees tax and NI contributions?

He will go to prison. His assets will be seized where possible to help repay this money, so they will go through all his bank statements with a fine tooth comb to trace it.
Yes I would imagine this is a prison sentence... they will also seize anything he has worth any money!

Make sure you are protected from them coming after you too! I assume that being his EX.. you are completely separate now and have no ties (other than children).

it sounds like he wont be paying any maintenance for a while too now!!!! Serving time for Her majesty!
Have you still got any property or other assets together or that you have any kind of financial interest in?

If so, get yourself some legal advice asap.
Question Author
No,nothing together and we were never married. He didn't do it to this extent in the other business's.

He stopped paying maintenance a long time ago and will not see the kids.

I have no sympathy for him.
