If it were within my power I'd go back in time and destroy all references to and work on the computer chip.

I think in the short time it's been with us its virtually changed and destroyed all societies and cultures but add to that the increasing rate of change I'm somehow pleased I won't be around to see its ultimate result.

Certainly its brought with it gains as well as losses; gains in respect of accessibility to knowledge, improved health care and the like but I think the deficits far outweigh the advantages.

Somehow the human race managed to survive quite well for thousands of years without it so I'm sure it could've staggered through a few more. We've always been able to invent, discover, adopt, adapt and overcome so we could still have enjoyed a good standard of life.

Zacs - I'm pleased your social went so well and whether you think the debate is pointless or not is a moot point as you're taking part in it; now that IS irony. So you don't mind all of your records stored on such vulnerable media as a hard drive, floppy or dvd then? I'm afraid I do so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

As for destroying society, we're becoming singularly sedentary automatons, our speech no longer that of Shakespeare, multiplication tables redundant, correct spelling borne from a spell-check - we needn't know anything any more. No cranial activity as far as imagination is concerned and a total lack of exercise in this obese, I WANT IT NOW era.

Yup - that's pointless all right.

Your name is a good one. We all know where that stuff ends up and your heading that way.

Thanks vas - it was a valid point and one which had to be said.

With one sentence you've epitomised the brainless moron, safely hiding behind his anonymity feeling brave by just once playing with the big boys. Nothing POSITIVE to add then, neither for or against then.

If anyone should doubt my criticisms of the computer chip, just take a look at vascop.
Please don't fight over this fella's it's all a very interesting debate & you are all entitled to your own opinions.
Just to bring a little levity into the conversation I'm looking forward to the time when all computers are solar powered & then we can have real fission chips :-)

I don't debate with morons.
the average age in bradford (my home town) in 1868 was 18 - the beck was fitted with grates to stop the dead infants clogging the mill's waterways

For me the defining question is .... what happens when it all stops?
evolution is self sustaining ... conditions change things evolve to cope

progress is forced ... and when the impetus stops ... what comes next? - what happens when the 13A doesn't work?
if there is a big bang - what then?

Trolls roam the internet ... the trouble now is that more and more of my relatives actually walk the earth

they are the stars of the 100 worst ...
night cops, road wars - big brother, I'm an idiot get me out of here (but only if I can sell my story)

and zacs - are you trying to argue that in a vilage the only (or at least major) method of publicising a charity event was via the net?
When I lived in a village we talked to each other ... face to face (remember ... the thing between your two key prodders?)

the driving force is, or should be people ...
our "muscle" is between the two key proddy things - instead of lifting heavy weights ... we invent a machine that lifts it for us
and now chips .... but we still have to keep hold of the steering wheel

vascop - Debate? What debate? You stick your nose in on a subject you know very little with personal abuse. Where's your debate? Which points did you raise either for or against? As I said before you are a perfect example of what's gonna happen to all of us - if we're not careful; and to think someone like you has the vote, ye gods.
