In the first few films 20 odd years ago, when obi one and yoda died their bodies vanished, but ever since then, any jedi to die, their body has stayed and normally been cremated.

does anyone know why yodas and obi's bodies vanished?

Is Star Wars not a prequele?

No, hopalong. The originals were episodes 4, 5 and 6 of a nine part story. The current 3 are the prequels.
I don't want to spoil it if you've not seen Episode 3 yet, but Yoda tells Obi Wan at the end that Qui Gon has learnt to control the force to appear in spirit form (or something). I took this to mean that until now, the Jedi were unable to control their bodies when they died. Now, though - and afterwards (Obi Wan, Yoda, Anakin) - they can control the Force to reappear in spirit form. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure we see Anakin disappear while he's being cremated in RotJ...
