Parking on single yellow lines on Bank Holidays

Hi,

I recently got issued a parking ticket for parking on a single yellow line on a bank holiday Monday.

It stated no stopping between Mon - Sat (8:30am - 6:30pm). I tried to appeal but they told me that it is still valid because the sign did not state "excluding Bank Holidays". They increased it to �160 and sent the bailiff round my house but I was at work so they sent a letter and 2 days later increased it to �300 and said the bailiff would be round again until I paid.

Do I have a case or do I have to pay?? Please help!!

They are right. You should have paid within the time limit given. Now it will cost you a lot more.

I agree with cheekychops. This is from Kingston Council but undoubtedly applies to other councils:
The times and days of control for a single yellow line (outside of a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ)) will be shown on a time plate adjacent to the stretch of single yellow line. If the restriction says, for example, Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 6.30pm then that section of single yellow line is enforced on those days and therefore will be controlled on Good Friday, Bank and Public holidays between those times.

Check your Parking Tkt thoughly, regards these robbing bsds bailiffs, I would seek advise regards you been at work & them coming to your home without telling you, good luck.

Although it does seem to depend on where you are.

In Cambridge they say:

Bank Holidays
Single yellow lines are not enforced during bank holidays, in Cambridge. Double yellow lines remain in force at all times including Bank Holidays.

Hi princess:

Unfortunately for you, you've left it far too late to ask if you have a case? You should have appealed at the very beginning if you believed you had, but, there's that word "unfortunately" again, it wouldn't have done you any good.

It's an expensive lesson but you have no case - pay up and try to put it down to experience. Sorry.

As far as I know, most local authorities will halve the fine if it is paid within 14 days. If you appeal within 14 days, the clock stops until you get an answer to your appeal.

Your appeal sounds reasonable - I would have done the same thing - but once it has been rejected you must pay up.

You said "recently" and the last Bank Holiday Monday was on April 14th which is less than 14 days ago. I doubt they are sufficiently zealous to be sending in the bailiffs in that timeframe, so I am guessing your offence was back in August last year.

Sorry, you do not have a case.
