I think I may have been caught by a mobile speed camera doing 76mph in a 70mph zone. How long does it take to receive notification of this? Thanks. Claire Tyne & Wear

I think they allow a 10% margin over the speed limit so 70mph would be 77mph.

Did you get flashed twice?  You say you think you were caught, could you provide a bit more info?

Fingers crossed they let me off then.  It was a mobile speed camera located on a flyover as i was driving on the motorway.  i didnt see it flash i was over the 70mph limit so presumed i got caught.  But it has been nearly 3 weeks now and i haven't heard anything although when my partner got caught it was nearly 4 weeks before he heard anything!

Unless you have a digital speedometer as well then the needle slightly overestimates your speed.
You should normally hear within 14 days

The usual leeway is 10% plus 2mph, so for a 70mph zone this would be 79mph

My speedo overestimates my speed by about 5mph whn it says I'm travelling at 70, according to my satnav system which is likely to be much more accurate

I've heard that its 10% + 3mph and also that its 10% +4mph!

I've also heard that you dont get prosecuted for doing under 70-80mph om a 70 zone, they are thinking of raising the limit to 80 anyway.  Obviously if you annoy a police officer who stops you he could well prosecute you for doing even 1 mph over the limit!

I was 100% certain i'd got caught doing 45 in a 30 a couple of months back but never heard anything.

Chances are you'll be ok!

Thanks everyone.  Hopefully I will be lucky this time!  Certainly going to stick to the speed limits in future!!
