My firebox needs it's chimney swept. I lit it last night & most of the smoke came out the front & kept setting the smoke alarm off! The chimney sweepers aren't coming for 2 weeks, so will have to use electricity. So expensive as the fire heats the water too.
Lol. I used the word, firebox thinking you Brits would understand it more than the word, fire. Meaning it's a multi-fuel log/coal burner. With a wetback to heat the water.
We have one of those too, with a suit door as pronounced by the Stokey man who installed it.
How is the weather in your beautiful country MWB ? I have not given up on visiting NZ
The house was built in the 50's. It's fully insulated, but cause there are so many coal mines here, coal is very cheap. And wood abounds too. But the govt is slowly phasing out fires. Any new house built can't have fires. And prob within 10 years no house will have one.
Which is good & bad. Bad as electricity is so damned expensive but good as coal is so smelly & dirty. Some nights in winter here it's like Auschwitz!.
