Thanks squarebear. That sounds logical.
That's what I remember hearing but it may not be true.
The good done that day will never be equaled.
No other day in the history of man has such a selfless deed been done for so undeserving a people ie Jesus dying on the cross
I think it's good because I don't have to go to work.
According to Brewer's dictionary of Phrase and Fable, 'good' here simply means 'holy'.
Here in Greece we call it Big Friday, and it's followed by Big Saturday.
If only it weren't just a fairy story, eh, Nannyjillx2?
In truth, nobody knows why that term has evolved. Some of the lingua franca suggestions are as those above but generally in the Church itself it is considered a good day for mankind, a day to remember when Jesus suffering enabled our own salvation. As nannyjill has said really.
Because comapared to His Saturday it was a good day.
Hardly for mankind,Octavius. Not for me, for example. Because I don't believeth in him I shan't be saved, apparently, though from what no-one is clear.

No doubt I will find out one day. Or maybe not.

Meanwhile you religionists must not try to include the rest of us in your superstitions. It's very ill-mannered.
I said 'in the church' and I thought that would be plain and simple enough to understand chakka, even for you.
