Head gasket??

Can a head gasket just go just like that?? We bought a car last Monday and the head gaskets gone... Do you think the seller knew it was going? Any advice please thanks.

You might get possible signs that the head gasket is on it's way out....Sludgey foam.. floating in your radiator would indicate oil is getting past the head gasket....but this is one of the checks you should do when buying a second hand car.
Having to keep topping your coolant up is another....and white smoke from your exhaust would also indicate a leaking gasket...also a misfire when idling.

The seller may have knew...and just wanted rid before the problem became expensive...but by the same token...I've known them to go with no indication whatsoever...

Cheers for that.... I no I need to be knowledge able with cars.. Just trusted the person selling it as it was family... So good to no that they may not have known so thanks alot for the info :)

How much around is it for an head gasket?? I've been quoted 500 pound does that sound right? :)
What make of car is it? petrol? diesel? age? it varies alot on those factors
it varies, 300 quid would be a simple no frills job, 500 quid I would expect a top notch job and a warranty

It's a rover 400... It's my nephews friend really don't think my nephew would have known... Well I really hope not anyway..
Rovers are well known for blowing head gaskets.

Yeh I've been told that alot since I got it.... Wish I'd have been told b4 I got it.. Haha ah well :) :)
The problem you have here is that it was bought as seen you have no comeback!!!

Tis true... Got it in at garage now gonna cost 200... Will learn by my mistake :)
Problem with K-series is that once they lose a head gasket, they keep blowing them :(
