Kittens!

I have been trying to find a kitten for weeks now and having no luck! I've tried Cats Protection (they have them, they just won't let me have one because I live near a road - just add me to the list of people I know who have been turned down for equally ridiculous reasons - never will a penny of my money go to them in the future!) RSPCA (they have none) and countless freeads type websites as well as local papers.
Anyone got any bright ideas that I haven't already thought of?

have you looked in the local papers, when our cat had kittens we advertised them in the papers and online
Are there not seasons when kittens are a plenty?

I can't remember when they are, but someone could help perhaps?

Perhaps you could adopt an older cat. Try going to your nearest rescue centre, there are always mature cats desperate for a loving home, and they might not fray your curtains so much.

The lack of kittens around will be because it's not really kitten season. Cats are largely seasonal breeders with litters usually appearing in spring and late summer.

Why not give a home to an adult cat - there are thousands and thousands desperatly needing homes and they get overlooked because everyone wants kittens. It is so rewarding giving a nice home to a needy cat - please think about it. :-)

If you genuinely cant get one from a animal sanctuary (Isn't it ridiculas the reasons they give you for not allowing you to home one?) try pet shops, some still sell them.

Thanks everyone for your help! I didn't realise there were 'kitten seasons' - you live and learn! I realise older cats are aplenty however its likely that my cat will be a house cat and so needs to be a kitten thats never been out before other it would just be plain mean on the poor animal
Not necessarily.

Chat with the helpers at a rescue centre because they may know which cats like freedom, and which are stay at home types.

Even if you don't adopt, it is a pleasant experience just seeing and stroking the cats looking for new homes.
A lot of rescue centres have adult cats who are "indoor cats" - mine was when I got him (he was actually agrophobic!).

It really is worth looking - try the Cats Protection League, the RSPCA and look for independently run rescue places in your area. You'll be surprised how many cats are indoor only. A place I help out at has loads and loads of them - in case you're in South East London, Kent or Sussex it's the Celia Hammond Animal Trust www.celiahammond.org and they have branches in Lewisham, Canning Town, Hastings and Tunbridge Wells. They often look for indoor only homes for a variety of reasons.

Good luck.
What about newsagent windows / community centre notice boards? We have an internal website at work where I got my two from as someone was adevrtising them; could you ask friends/ family to check their work sites / notice boards?
Try this site-it lists cats for adoption nationwide http://www.catadoption.co.uk/
Vets often have notice boards with animals needing homes. I think an older cat would be a good idea - there are those who have been house cats.
pasta - I wish you hadn't posted that link, now I shall have to go and look!
I wanted a kitten last October (October to Jan is kitten season) but cats protection took 6 weeks to answer the messages I left on the answer phone. Other sanctuaries turned me down because I live near a road. Finally a web search tracked down several people in the area with kittens. (Local vets are also a good source of kittens for sale)I now have two beautiful half brothers, they have a loving devoted human and I have constant fun and entertainment. I too will never donate money to CP again. Good luck with your search.
I have been trying to get a kitten for months and I agree with you, Cat re-homing centres DO NOT make it easy at all. I have just been turned down again....because my road is too busy!! I lost my kitten a couple of months ago and I am absolutely broken hearted!!! I can't find one at all!!! They say seasons start from April onwards...... so maybe trying then will help you? But I can sympathise with you!!! I was just searching oon the web...feeling really down about the whole thing until I came across this question... At least I'm not the only one. I hope you find one.....
Me again....just to be clear....kitten season in the is from APR!
