why, all of a sudden do my emails sit in the outbox while it tries to connect and yet I can receive them, but if I close down OE and then open up again they are sent straight away, the settings havn't changed so I am beginning to suspect this is a server problem, could I be right??

Doubt it's a server problem as it's working when you reload outlook...

Do they go if you click send and receive?

and also click on the tools menu, select options and then click on the send tab and make sure there is a tick in "send messages immediately"
Question Author
have checked the tools settings, "send messages immediately" is ticked
yes they will go if I click send and receive, but only just after I have reloaded outlook , after a short while it stops sending but still receives
is your outbox empty?
Question Author
once I reload OE, yes, it empties
Question Author
stupid thing is working ok tonite, I knew it was them
OE is defined as client mail so it is quite possible that the SMTP service was temporarily unavailable. Your mail comes in via a different (POP3?) service.
