Weird shennanigans are afoot with my computer.

Outlook Express kept prompting me to compact my folders. It would spend an age compacting and then crash. Now Outlook Express will not even launch.

According to the Microsoft Website Outlook Express 6 is part of Internet Explorer 6 and to reinstall it one should reinstall IE6. However IE6 doesn't seem to be available on the Microsoft website. It has been replaced by the IE7 beta. I have installed this, but it doesn't give any option to install Outlook Express, and makes no difference to my Outlook problems.

Is anyone able to explain how I can reinstall OE over my old version?

Thanks.

You need your installation CD handy just in case.

Go into start/-contol panel and click on the add/remove windows components. Uncheck the OE and IE, say ok and reboot. Go back into start-control panel and check those two boxes. That should work.

You could try (with the CD in your tower) going into run and typing sfc /scannow and let it do a repair.

Moral is always compact folders on OE because if you don't you will get these problems.

Cheers for your answer flubber. I will give it a go. Unfortunately, I was not actually avoiding compacting my folders. OE just crashed every time it attempted to do it.

Also, my computer came supplied with Windows pre-installed, so I do not have disc. Is this likely to be a problem?

Thanks.
