Am I the only person who has never tried hummus or coucous?  It just doesn't sound nice! What have you never bothered to try that lots of people love to eat?  Or are you like my neighbour who's always saying 'Oh I don't like that' when she's never even tasted it?

I really should be more adventurous & try something different every week!

tried hummus ands hated it (threw up too!!) tried couscous and loved it, but, despite my 80 odd year old mum's blandishments, I WILL NOT try squid!!
I will try most things, I love hummus and couscous. I don't think I will ever try an oyster though, I really don't get what people see in them. I never say I don't like something if I haven't tried it.
Houmous is fantastic!! And you can buy Savoury Couscous in lots of  style's Morocan etc.

The only thing I have tried and not liked is bone marrow (a la "dog bone" style) in Lyon.

It is supposedly a local delicacy, but makes me feel sick even thinking back to eating it.

Thanks for replies - might give the couscous a try but as for squid & oysters same here - noooo thanks, both look revolting!!  scubadiver that would have gone straight into the doggy bag  yuk!!

Robinia - try hummous with lemon and coriander - wonderful as a dip.
Couscous is so boring, and the only time I tried squid it was like trying to eat an elastic band.
I won't eat anything that looks too slimy so oysters are def out.
I have never to my knowledge eaten tripe - I feel ill just thinking about it.

Couscous with browned pine nuts, grilled red pepper strips,  snipped apricots and finished with chopped coriander or parsley - is to die for.  Serve with pork loin chops, grilled chicken  - or cold as a salad with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Tongue, mackerel, herring, skate, mussels, oysters, squid rings, crab, lobster, most offal except liver with onions. I loathe  peas.  Goose liver pate is evil - poor little things. Sorry Robby, I've wandered off the topic.

I once mistook sliced tongue for roast beef, and stapped a whole slice into my mouth. Jesus wept!  If you've not done it, don't, ..just don't.

I love humous, I make it for my lunch in a wholemeal pitta with chopped yellow and red peppers.

Cous Cous I have never cooked, but I buy the ready prepared ones from M&S sometimes.  As far as I can make out it's what you put with the cous cous that makes the meal tasty as I think it's quite bland on it's own.

What wouldn't I try?  The thought of eating something still alive (oyster) really puts me off.  For a long time when I was little I couldn't eat 'live' bacteria yoghurts.

I try pretty much everything else though, and there aren't many things that I don't like, in fact the only one that comes to mind is olives.

Thanks again.

Well there seems to be an agreement that oysters are a big no  - if you believed the tv you'd think that everyone was eating them!

Chillum I'm just know that when I see the tongue on the local deli counter I'm going to think of your reply & laugh - it's ok they know I'm a funny woman.

Cetti you're right about the goose livers - I wouldn't touch it, but as for a little liver in onion gravy, lovely! One of my sons would never touch peas so I always used to hide one in his dinner & at the end of the meal there'd be a clean plate with the one pea next to his knife & fork!!

I was once merrily eating beef carpaccio oblivious to what it was until someone explained and i immediately stopped. I wont touch snails, eels and any type of offal.

What about tripe!!!  Do you know anyone who eats it?

I also draw the line at oysters -  I was once offered one off of the plate of a very gorgeous bloke who I fancied like mad and I still couldn't bring myself to try one!

I must sound like a  weirdo but I like uncooked tripe with salt & vinegar and I love oysters. I will try anything edible once but top of my "never again or I'll barf" list is sea urchins (tastes like mucous mixed with Sloanes linament) and fruitbat stew (a dish of black gunge containing a whole bat).

When I was young I went on a camping trip with my auntie & uncle who were slightly barking. They didn't take any food with them as they decided it would be a challenge to live off the land. The nettle soup was ok but the meal that was a nightmare was seagull. Think fishy tasting chicken and you'll get the idea.

It's a good job my family has someone normal like me.

Oh thikasabrik please tell me you're kidding!!!
ewww oysters.  It tastes and feels better to have a heavy cold, trying to swallow those things.
Belive it or not, after reading all of the responses I'm now determined to try an oyster. Haven't done so yet, but, at the next opportunity, I shall. Don't be tempted to try the tongue though, ..just don't.
