I have been offered voluntary redundancy at work with a years salary,(as opposed to compulsary redundancy). Am I allowed to sign on the dole,or claim job seekers allowance straight away? Thanks for any info.
Not until the end of your contractual notice period expires.
It doesn't actually matter whether you take voluntary or compulsory redundancy - the same applies.
Your contractual notice period will depend how long you have been working there - but since you are being offered 12 months salary, one assumes you've been there some while. It is likely to be between 4 and 12 weeks.
The 'dole' is Job Seekers' Allowance.
Bear in mind that redundancy sums over 30k are taxable (the element over 30k is).
Have you got a union rep you could have a word with.Where
i worked (large firm ) the people who worked there 28 and 30 years got around 42, 000 to 48,000. the skilled workers got higher amounts . A friend got 64,000 and NONE of us had to pay tax.
pps, Just in case you don't know .When you go to the job centre they want to see your bank account , building society account, post office etc details .ORIGINALS not photo copies. They take a copy of all your oriiginals.
Can i alter the bit about tax , some tax was paid . When they give you a final figure ask if this is the figure before tax or after tax. the figures i have quoted above were the final figures paid to people.please have a read of this link
