Hi

My voluntary redundancy was provisonally accepted on the 2nd of May and I received confirmation of acceptance a week later followed the next day by my Redundancy Payment, week in hand, holiday pay and 12 weeks Payment in Lieu of Notice which appears to have National Insurance taken off (94)

Could anyone tell me how soon I need to contact the Jobcentre etc? I know that you need to make sure your NI is still being paid but as National Insurance has already been taken off my 12 weeks Payment in Lieu of Notice do I still need to register?

Also both my letters state that the company has accepted my voluntary redundancy Will this wording affect any JSA claim?

Thanks in advance for any help

You can check JSA details on the website
http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/ WorkingAgeBenefits/Jobseekerallowance/dev_0061 11.xml.html

I recall that if redundancy is voluntary this will affect your entitlement to JSA.

Thanks for the quick response

I have seen on other sites etc that I won't be able to claim JSA until my 12 weeks Lieu of Notice money is used up but that you need to register in order to have your NI contributions paid over that period. As my Lieu of Notice Payment already has National Insurance taken off do I still need to register yet or can I wait until the 12 weeks are up (providing I'm still out of work by then of course)?

Thanks for all your help
You are right that you will not be entitled to JSA during your notice period. I am not sure that I understand why NI has been taken off your your severance payment. Are you sure? I think you should register with JC anyway - 2 reasons. 1) It's best to assure the business about your NI credits. 2) It helps the start of the process of jobhunting.
