Well, I may be on the wrong track but I am down in Surrey! and have the hymn writer as John Mason Neale, that's as far as I have got so far.

I have worried it for several hours now, got loads of clues like Egham, Ivy Compton-Burnett, the hymn writer etc.

I've decided to go with Runnymede and Chertsey.

Thanks for your censure Over18! Give some of the others hell too.
Chertsey is not a village. Go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chertsey
You won't be popular asking before youve had a good go.
Calm down "over 18" you must be stressed out!

OK

after my personal trainer, Over18, worked me out and made me "burn", I'm going for Runnymede and Lower Halliford.

Not submitting it yet though in case of extra "tips"
The problem is that although the poet lived in LH he is buried in the larger village to its west. Hence neither is where he "lived and is buried" unless LH can be considered to be part of the larger village.
