Quite a few years ago I bought a postcard that I think must have been a reproduction of a painting. It was divided into four sections (two above two), rather like a comic strip, but the style wasn't at all cartoonish. The first three pictures were all exactly the same: A Victorian looking man (if I remember) sitting in an armchair by the window, looking out. In the fourth picture he was gone. The effect was strangely suggestive. Eventually I sent the card to someone and felt sure I'd remember the name of the artist and painting. Well guess what.

Thanks in advance, I'm coming down with a cold and may not be able to thank you until later on.

No I didn't but I was thinking about that card just the other day...!! That's so weird! (I mean, I don't go around thinking about it a lot... ;-)
what a shame. i stumbled across the question recently and became briefly obsessed with finding the thing, but to no avail...

Ha ha, I know what those brief obsessions are like - the things I've googled for since I joined AnswerBank, you wouldn't believe. Still, seems somehow appropriate that this one should turn out to be futile. Thanks anyway, Trillipse!
