As everyone I meet seems to be all stressed out about Christmas and all the work and expense, etc and all wish it could be traditional like it used to be - why can't we all stop the hype and let it return to how it used to be?

I agree totally. The other day I told my husband that I was gutted that I didn't feel christmasey this year. He was shocked as I have always been annoyingly festive. Then I saw my two little girls. They were stressing too!! They were worried that they had missed things off the list they sent to Santa. Then they worried that they were being greedy and making the elves work too hard!! God bless childhood!
What would your christmas be like if you could?

Aahh cj your poor little girls! That's what I mean, we carry on doing things because everyone else is, but we all wish we didn't have to, and everyone else is too!! Card writing is the worst bit for me.

Squitty, it would be just a handful of cards, put a simple christmas tree up on Christmas eve, a nice lunch and just pressies for my family instead of endless friends, neighbours, work colleagues, teachers, lollipop ladies, tips for window cleaners, dustbin men (even tho we now do most of their job for them) etc, I could go on ...............
Pips1 - agreeing with your point but kinda forget what traditional used to be (hoped you were going to remind me).
Real snow would be nice !
We get so much 'stuff ' -of the material kind-pushed at us...it is more and more each year. The commercialisation of the holiday is the worst. It is no wonder we yearn for something simpler.
I hate consumerism, but it's not easy to avoid it. Shops should stop advertising Christmas goods weeks before the event, and it'd save the stress of being pestered or encouraged to buy.
We have put a financial limit on gifts this year. Apart from the small gifts that everyone will have, it will be traditional. Carol concerts and midnight mass, Christmas dinner with all the family at home, carols round the piano with mum (I can actually do without that bit), a traditional stroll on Christmas Day round the village etc.

What is really stressing me out is all the people who have sat on work for months and are sending it to me now saying they want it before Christmas!!!!!!!!
