What is the motto in the book Hard Times? This is a quiz question, and I would welcome any help on this one.

Thank you very much for that Quizmonkey. I actually studied Hard Times for my English A Level exam, but in my defence, it was 45 years ago, and remembering what I did yesterday causes sufficient problems these days!!

See what I mean, I intended to give Steve.5 stars for his answer too...for which many thanks, and pressed my answer instead! It's not a good day!!

I'm going with you Steve. That's the answer I feel the quiz is looking for. Once again, many thanks.

Dodgy question! The facts line may well be a motto in the book but it's just the opinion of Gradgrind. The motto OF the book ((ie. what Dickens was saying) is as I wrote above. Given the vague wording of the question, I can't see how they can mark either wrong.
I'm thinking; Hard times for these times (frontpiece).
