All of the reviews for the new series of Dr Who keep going on about Daleks being able to go upstairs for the first time.  I'm sure I've seen them go upstairs before?  Was I seeing things?  It might have been one of the spin off films, or the short one off specials they did.

I think one of the later Dr. Who stories (7th Doctor?) had Daleks levitate up the stairs with a kind of glowing special effect around the bottom of the Dalek.

Indeed, the 7th Doctor story "Remembrance of the Daleks" ( out on DVD ) has a Dalek gliding up a flight of sellar steps.

The glow effect was to hide the plank that the Dalek prop was levetated on by two stage-hands behind the set.
