MY work has just turned around to me to say that am to work six days a week and not five. I have been working there for over 5 years, have a contract saying "you will receive a day off in lieu during the week ensuring that I work 5 days a week". They have done it to a few managers and telling us to like it or lump it! Can I seek advice from CAB for example, can they just change my contract to suit them, am I entitled to redundancy if I wish to leave?? Thanks in advance!

I would go to cab if i was you.But if it does not say you work saturdays in your contract you could refuse and or if they sack you or you leave you could sue for constuctive dissmissal at tribunal.

Yes, do as the above 2 suggest.
CAB should tell you that your employer cannot just change your contract in this manner. Changes must be by negotiation and they must give you at least 5 weeks notice of the proposed change.
You are not entitled to redundancy (because your job is not redundant - quite the reverse) - but ask CAB about resigning and claiming constructive dismissal. This is not to be taken lightly, but if you are looking to be 'out' anyway, it could provide you with money. It involves taking your case to an Employment Tribunal.
Your contract clearly states that you only work 5 days per week. For all your employers know you may be contracted for other work on Saturdays or have care commitments. Do not leave and claim constructive dismissal if you can possibly avoid it as it is a very difficult case to win at tribunal. I see very few successful claims. ACAS or CAb will assist or check your household insurance to see if there is any clause which offers legal assistance for employment issues. Many policies now include this. If you don't want to work 6 days a week say so and see what they do. Try and make them take the action and record everything that happens.. In writing is always best.
