how do I backup all my saved emails and contacts in microsoft office outlook before formatting my pc, I have an external hard drive which I want to use to save everything before formatting.

Search for *.pst and copy the file it finds probably called outlook.pst to the EHD, thats all your mails backed up :)

oh and same as above but serch for *.wab for your address book

yeah, just install office again, run outlook and setup your mail account and it will create blank files of the same names as the ones you have copied, simply replace those with the ones you've backed up and all your mail will appear by magic next time you run outlook.
