Could someone please help me identify a shrub, please?
Dark green leaves much larger than the white flowers which are like tiny bells on individual stalks off the leaf stalks. Extremely fragrant, particularly in early evenings.
Seen in south of France a couple of weeks ago. I have a photo but can't see how to post it on here.
Any suggestions welcome.

terambulan: Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't like that one.

Hawkwalk: Thank you so much for the tip. I've loaded the pic here: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=nqplxj&s=4

it is an Elaeagnus x ebbingei. Usually used in the Uk as a hedge or shrub and not known especially for its flowers.

Thank you so much Hawkwalk - you're a star - I would never have found that in a month of Sundays. It's such an unassuming plant but it smells divine and I was really taken with it. Thank you again for taking the trouble to help.
I actually thought you meant this one but you know now anyway

mistee, we saw (and smelled) exactly the same shrub while we were in france last week (biarritz) and wondered what it was. it really is very strongly scented isn't it? i wonder if it would do well in the north of england?

In reply to Ethandron, Yes it grows well in the north. I'm sure that you will enjoy growing it.
